Matthew "Smitty" Schmidt, an anarchist, was convicted in 1916 for complicity in the Oct. 1, 1910 bombing of the Los Angeles Times building. He was released on parole 30 years later. Biography The Times building at First and Broadway, Los Angeles, was dynamited by union terrorists on Oct. 1, 1910; 20 employees were killed, many injured, and the building destroyed; James B.
